“adoption is the highest privilege that the gospel offers” J.I. Packer
For too long there has been a lack of theological reflection on the nature of the Christians’ adoption into God’s family. The doctrine of adoption has been absent from the liturgy, hymnody and homiletics of the church. In this multi-disciplinary conference leading ethicists, theologians and biblical scholars from around the world will gather to rectify this situation. This conference, organised by Home for Good, St Mellitus and Evangelical Alliance, will be exploring two theological perspectives: A vertical perspective on adoption into God's family. Secondly the ‘horizontal' perspective adoption where the church in general, and the Christian family in particular, are seen as community of welcome and hospitality for vulnerable children.
Speakers include: Professor Richard Bauckham, Rev Sue Colman, Professor Stanley Hauerwas (video), Dr Steve Holmes, Dr Krish Kandiah, Professor John Milbank, Dr Michael Reeve, Dr Chris Tilling, Dr Graham Tomlin, Dr Ruth Valerio, Dr Rosalee Velloso-Ewell, Dr Jane Williams.
