Foremost New Testament scholars Dick France died aged 73

I just heard this news yesterday. I was privileged to have Dick France as my New Testament lecturer in the first year of my theology degree studies in 1988.

I remember most the time he had us all listen to the gospel of Mark being read from start to finish. I was struck then that he was a genius scholar with an intense yet gentle faith.

I also got to meet with him when he was Principle of Wycliffe Hall, Oxford, when my wife and I moved to Oxford in 1992 to help with a church plant. That meeting was about my wife and I as ex students wanting to meet one of our favourite lecturers.

Dick was an amazing scholar who completed life so wonderfully with his service in rural parish ministry. He remains an inspiration to me.
