A covenant prayer for a covenant people #dmingml

My church community, this past year, has been exploring the theme of covenant.  What does it mean to be in covenant with God and each other, compared the other modes of relationship in society, i.e contract, voluntary association etc.

In a prayer meeting last night a friend shared a prayer, The Methodist Covenant Prayer.  It seems to be a variation of a covenant prayer by John Wesley.

It's such a powerful prayer and antidote to the mantra of consumer self creation.  A prayer of submission to be God created.  Not an easy prayer to pray or seek to live.

I am no longer my own but yours.
Put me to what you will,
rank me with whom you will;
put me to doing,
put me to suffering;
let me be employed for you,
or laid aside for you,
exalted for you,
or brought low for you;
let me be full,
let me be empty,
let me have all things,
let me have nothing:
I freely and wholeheartedly yield all things
to your pleasure and disposal.
And now, glorious and blessed God,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
you are mine and I am yours.'
