Interesting book on my desk this week by Fritz Kling, 'The Meeting of the Waters: 7 global currents that will propel the future church'.
Kling has extensive mission experience, and this book is based on 151 interviews with church leaders in 19 countries, called the 'Global Listening Tour'. You can read the first chapter online here.
Kling has identified 7 common trends within those interviews, transcending international and cultural boundaries, as having the largest impact on mission and church:
1. Mercy, 2. Mutuality, 3. Migration, 4. Monoculture, 5. Machines, 6. Mediation & 7. Memory
It's one of the more interesting 'trend' books that I've read for some time. Rather than having one futurist plot the future for us, this is earthed in the weight of many real people from around the world within the concrete larger church.
