Sense of Time

I had a great time at the Comedy Zone, then flew to Belgium to meet my family, for a few days retreat/break. I got to tour some of the underground cave systems that are in Belgium.

Standing in front of a stalagmite, that had taken 135,000 years to form was humbling and moving. The fast pace of my life, and the timescales that I work too, the sense of immediacy that I often carry, were measured against the lime stone water dripping one drop at a time, over a period of time I could not imagine.

As I tried to get a feel of something taking that long to form, it helped get my life and my formation in perspective, and moved me to some prayers. Prayers about my God who is immeasurably bigger and immediate than my life, or the formation of a stalagmite.
